FEAR WISH - Short Film Review

"Turn the flashlight on and off three times, whatever you wish for will appear in the light..."

FEAR WISH is a short film written and directed by Todd Spence and Zak White, I must say this duo filmmakers are the future of true horror filmmaking.  FEAR WISH is 3 minutes long, beautifully composed from shot to shot with great craftiness. This is a story about "becareful what you wish for".  Rich (played gracefully by Nathan Sutton) goes to desperate measures to wish for his wife who is afflicted with ill health to get cured, but something goes awry and I won't spoil it for you, you need to check it out. Is a must see.

You can check out FEAR WISH at Todd Spence and Zak White MIDNIGHT VIDEO (YOUTUBE CHANNEL).

My Top 12 Horror Films of 2019

It was a great year in Horror Films. Horror films domestic and foreign, Horror television series popping out of nowhere via VOD, Cable Broadcast, Internet, Horror film festivals. Now Is hard to keep up with the Horror genre more than ever.  Not only a great year in Horror films but also great performances, but that will be another blog. So here is my list of my top 12 horror films of 2019.

1. CLIMAX
2. READY OR NOT
3. US
4. MIDSOMMAR
5. CRAWL
6. DOCTOR SLEEP
7. IT: CHAPTER 2
8. BRIGHTBURN
9. MA
10. HAUNT
11. HOLE IN THE GROUND
12. IN FABRIC

Gaspar Noe CLIMAX is my number #1 film - a very disturbing film. Set in the early 90's, a dance troupe of great dancers practice their dancing at an isolated empty school loft, when someone spikes the fruit punch with LSD, the dancers practically dance to their death on LSD, and some go beyond cuckoo inside the loft, while an amazing disco and house classic music soundtrack plays in the background. Gaspar Noe direction, the cinematography and powerful performances will blow you away.

R.I.P. SID HAIG - A LEGEND

Very sad news today, legendary actor Sid Haig, star of dozens of tv shows and movies since the 60's, and legendary for his film performances in many blaxploitation films and in Rob Zombie HOUSE OF A 1000 CORPSES, LORDS OF SALEM, DEVIL'S REJECTS, and the upcoming 3 FROM HELL his last film, passed away at the age of 80. He truly was an amazing man. He was very nice at the horror film conventions to his fans.  Sadly you are here today and tomorrow you are gone, the thought is just terrifying.

The Final Wish - Review

The Final Wish, Directed by Timothy Woodard Jr. and Written by Jeffrey Reddick (Creator of Final Destination).

A struggling lawyer Aaron (played by Michael Welch) comes to his hometown after receiving bad news that his father passed away. On returning home, he is not so well received by his mom (Lynn Shaye). She feels Aaron has shunned her and the dad. Aaron finds an artifact at home that belonged to his dad. The artifact grants you wishes that turn shady and deadly.

So here is the reading of this film:  Is awfully slow – At 1 hour and 35 minutes the film drags, and drags, practically going nowhere, waiting for the Djinn to do a peek-a-boo, in which he does a quick pop up after 55 minutes into the film. The Djinn looks like a man in a rubber costume suit, wearing a battery operated animatronic mask that looks like it was bought from Party City. The Final Wish should be re-edited for a faster pace version. The trailer is better than the film. If you are expecting action, thrilling horror, and jump scares, you got the wrong motion picture. The only thing that saved this film was watching Lin Shaye and Tony Todd doing their great performances. The rest of the acting is crappy and so rottenly cheesy.

The best WTF Silly line from the film: “This is the 21stCentury, What do you mean curse?

The film is a SLOPPY MESS.

Jeremiah Kipp SLAPFACE - Short Film Review

SLAPFACE, a short film written and directed by Jeremiah Kipp. A young boy (Joshua Kaufman) is grieving the loss of his mother, so he finds comfort with a monster (Lukas Hassel) who lives in the woods. The monster is very androgynous, long hair, long nails and a chattered face. As the boy calls the monster out loud in the middle of the woods, the monster comes out, and in a tender moment the monster hugs the boy.  The Dad (Nick Gregory) who is a semi brute, finds his son, asleep, laid out in front of their front lawn. He brings his son inside the house forcing him to take meds, but son refuses to take the meds - the scene becomes a bit disturbing and creepy, that’s where the film get its title – SLAPFACE.  I will not spoil it for you... You need to check it out. The film leaves you wanting more, for a full length feature.  Kipp brings the best out of his actors with fine performances, and gorgeous cinematography. The short film is yet another great mysterious, fantasy/horror opus by the ferocious Mr. Kipp.  SLAPFACE will be making its rounds in the film festival circuit.

OSCAR WINNER MARTIN LANDAU - R.I.P.

Another sad news - Martin Landau, Oscar winner for his role as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton's ED WOOD (1994) passed away today at the age of 89. Sadly, two legends Landau and Romero are now gone, back to back. Such a scary feeling, one day you here and the next day you are not.  Martin Landau starred in many films and in a few other horror films such as Without Warning (1980), Alone in the Dark (1982) and many others. May Mr. Landau Rest in Peace - we will miss you.

LEGENDARY GEORGE A. ROMERO PASSES AWAY

THE AMAZING, GREATNESS, THE LEGEND GEORGE A. ROMERO PASSED AWAY TODAY. Sadly he died in his sleep. He had a battle with lung cancer. Sadly the king of Zombie films NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD, DAY OF THE DEAD, and other great films CREEPSHOW, MONKEY SHINES, THE CRAZIES, MARTIN, he was a great inspiration for many horror filmmakers out there including myself and this is just ripping news.  The legendary horror filmmakers and actors are dying - this is just sad. GEORGE A. ROMERO you will always be KING OF THE ZOMBIES THE CREATOR THE MASTER OF THE ZOMBIE GENRE. IF it wasn't for GEORGE A. ROMERO there wouldn't be no WALKING DEAD idea for Robert Kirkman - trust me on that.  GEORGE ROMERO R.I.P. you are the greatest.

THE NEW PENNYWISE CLOWN "IT"

I am a big fan of Pennywise The Clown played by Tim Curry in Stephen King's IT tv mini-series (1990). I'm not sure if I like the new Pennywise Clown version (above) for the movie version. Maybe the film version will be a hit or a flop - who knows, hoping it doesn't flop like another sucky bad remake (A Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 remake). The outfit the new Pennywise The Clown is wearing in this Entertainment Weekly photo looks tacky, and even the whole clown look - I don't know, it looks tired.  Pennywise The Clown, 1990 version was one, scary, deadly son of a bitch, the squeamish, saucy make-up, the big red wig and the outfit just scary. I hope and I pray Stephen King's IT movie version will give us one hell of a great scary ride at the movies come 2017.

THE EXORCIST TV SERIES POSTER

HANNIBAL, ASH VS. EVIL DEAD, BATES MOTEL, TEEN WOLF,  THE OMEN, SCREAM, WOLF CREEK and the list could go on of all the television spin offs from horror films, now comes THE EXORCIST. A classic horror film now a television series for FOX.  I am wondering how they are going to get away with all the horror, the God cussing, the gore, the vomit and the blasphemy like the original film.  Maybe this would've been better for HBO, SHOWTIME where they could get away with everything like ASH VS. EVIL DEAD for STARZ. I'll check it out.  But I tell you -Hollywood is running out of original ideas now they digging into old classic horror films and putting them for the small screen.  We need original horror ideas for the big and small screen.

SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN - SHORT FILM REVIEW

SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN, Directed by Corey Norman, based on a short story by Stephen King...  Ms. Sidley, a grumpy, bitchy, unfriendly elementary school teacher (played by Anne Bobby from Clive Barker NIGHTBREED) asks one of her students named Robert to use the word TOMORROW in a sentence.  Robert answers back: “Tomorrow something bad will happen”.  As Ms. Sidley looks through her eyeglasses, she sees a reflection of Robert turning into a monster, is it a hallucination or is it real?  Does she sees good little kids or little monsters or is she hallucinating?  “There are more of us now” Robert says to his shady teacher Ms. Sidley.  With a chip on her shoulder, she takes matters into her own hand in a very sick way. But I wont tell you no spoilers here – you need to see this awesome short film.

Filmmaker Corey Norman did an awesome job with this horror short opus with great direction, cinematography and top notch acting from the cast.  A MUST SEE...
